First, select the “Your account” tab in the right corner of the page, then choose “Manage profile.” You can change your settings on that page.
How do I change the type of information included in my EveryBlock news feed or email?
Select the account tab in the right corner of the page, then choose “Manage news types.”
Check or uncheck the boxes for the categories of news you’d like to include, ranging from neighbor messages to real estate listings. These changes apply will to both your EveryBlock homepage and email digest.
How do I change the frequency of my EveryBlock email messages?
Select the account tab in the right corner of the page, then choose “Manage email.” Use the dropdown menu under “news digest” to change the frequency of the email digests from your followed places. Check or uncheck the boxes for the various types of email you do or don’t want to receive.
How can I delete my EveryBlock account?
Select the account tab in the right corner of the page, then choose “Manage profile.” Click “Deactivate your account” at the bottom of the page. Please take a second to let us know why you’re leaving.
How can I find my past comments or neighbor messages?
Select the account tab in the right corner of the page. Scroll down to the second section of the dropdown menu and choose “Your neighbor messages” or “Your comments.”
What does it mean to “subscribe” to something?
Subscribing to items on EveryBlock is an easy way to stay updated on a particular bit of news. When you subscribe to an item, you’ll get an email whenever somebody posts a comment, and you’ll be able to quickly access a list of all the items you’ve subscribed to.
How do I find items I’ve subscribed to?
Select the account tab in the right corner of the page. Scroll down to the second section of the dropdown menu and choose “Your subscriptions.”
How can I remove or add new followed places to my EveryBlock account?
To remove followed places, you can go directly to the place page and hover over the “following” button. This will allow you to unfollow the place completely or just remove it from your EveryBlock email or homepage. You can remove or add places by clicking on your account tab and select “manage places.”
How do I post a message on EveryBlock for my neighbors?
If you’re logged into our site, you can either post your message directly from the box at the top of your EveryBlock homepage or from the “start a discussion” link in the top navigation.
Once you enter your headline and message, you’ll be asked to post the message to one of your followed locations. If you would like to post a message to a location you don’t follow, click on the place link in the top navigation to find the place page for your desired location. Once you go to the EveryBlock page for that location, you can post your message.
Please note that we do ask neighbors to avoid posting the same message to multiple locations. Read our comment policy for more.
Also, don’t forget to review your message before you post, because EveryBlock currently does not have a button for you to edit or remove your message.
How do I send a private message to my neighbors?
To turn on this feature, click on your account tab in the right corner of the page and select “manage emails.” Then, look for the “connecting with your neighbors” heading and mark the checkbox. (We have turned this option off by default for all our existing users because we didn’t want to catch anyone by surprise.)
If you’d like to send an EveryBlock neighbor an email message, first go to his or her profile page. If your neighbor has enabled this feature, you’ll see “send email” in the right side.
How can I get to know my neighbors better on EveryBlock?
Tell your neighbors a little bit about yourself by making sure you’ve uploaded a profile photo, short bio and completed your profile page. You can do this by selecting the account tab in the right corner of the page and selecting “profile.”
Once you’ve completed your profile, the best way to get to know your neighbors is to just dive into the conversation. Post comments on news items or existing neighbor messages. You can even post your own neighbor message if you have a specific topic in mind or message you’d like to share.
How can I promote my local business on EveryBlock?
We ask for EveryBlock users to avoid posting overly promotional messages on the site. But if residents are already discussing your business, feel free to jump in, join the conversation or answer their questions.
